Canada Day Outfit

Yikes! It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve been so busy with life in general that I haven’t had much time to sit down and actually write a post. I have however been keeping up on Instagram 🙂

Time has flown by so fast, can you believe Canada Day is less than a week away?! I don’t know about you but I always go all out with my outfit for Canada Day. It’s the one day of the year where you can wear your red, white and maple proudly and unabashedly!

I found the most adorable Canada Day dress at Suzy Shier and I’m just thrilled to be able to share it with you. What better way to celebrate Canada Day than by wearing a dress from one of the country’s oldest and best known retailers. Fun fact – Suzy Shier was founded in 1966 and has been around for over 50 years with over 140 stores across Canada!

This red and white printed dress is the perfect way to show off your Canadian pride. The butterfly details in the print are so feminine and the dress is super comfy to wear. It’s light and airy just like a butterfly, I love the way the skirt of the dress flutters when the wind catches it. My dress is part of Suzy’s High Tea collection that’s currently available in stores and online. This collection focuses on feminine florals and prints with a splash of red for colour.

I  liked the vintage look of this dress and decided to play in to the vintage vibe when I styled it. I paired this dress with an adorable picnic basket bag that I picked up on my travels (I’ll share more about my most recent trip in an upcoming post). For accessories I added my favourite pair of white wedges with a bow detail.  In keeping with the vintage flair I added a fascinator that I found at Unique Accessories last year.

How are you showing off your Canadian pride and celebrating Canada Day this year? Wearing red and white perhaps?

Tropical Beach Dress

If you’ve been following my blog you probably know that I have a soft spot for anything tropical. Maybe it’s because I’m originally from the tropics (shout out to all my Sri Lankans!). Whatever the reason I just can’t say no to anything tropical, so when I saw this tropical beach dress I simply had to have it! How perfect is this dress for a day at the beach or a summer afternoon out with friends?

The print on this dress is like an instant vacation. I love anything to do with beaches and this dress in particular reminded me of a dress I’d seen years ago on t.v. I may be dating myself here but growing up I was a fan of the show Friends. I remember an episode where the group went to a beach house and Rachel had on this tropical beach print dress. I always liked this dress and over the years tried to find one like it but never had any luck. I was pretty thrilled when I found this mini version that’s pretty close to it, granted hers was a maxi and mine is a mini but I still love it!

I paired this dress with my favourite palm tree sandals from Forever 21. I ordered the sandals online and haven’t seen them in store in Canada yet however they do fit true to size. Since the dress is so busy I accessorized with a set of simple white flower earrings. I’ve linked a similar pair at the end of this post.

What do you think of the tropical trend this Spring and Summer – would you rather go to the beach or wear it and take it with you wherever you go?

yellow gingham dress

It’s finally feeling like Summer in Ottawa! Yellow is a colour  I always associate with Summer. I’m not sure if it’s because there’s lots of sun in the Summer (fingers crossed) or because it’s such a happy time of year. Either way it’s virtually impossible to be sad when you’re wearing yellow right?

I was thrilled to find this cute and comfy off the shoulder yellow gingham print dress at Old Navy. This dress has a fun and feminine feel to it with the off the shoulder ruffled top and the lace detailing at the bottom. I love the yellow gingham print, it’s just perfect for a Summer weekend or BBQ. The dress is made out of a linen and rayon blend fabric so it’s light and fits loosely on the body.

I chose to style this dress as part of a casual outfit and I was so pleased to find this adorable pineapple straw clutch at Old Navy as well. Straw bags, pom poms and tropical accents are trending this Summer and this bag combines them all!  To complete this outfit I added a pair of white wedges and some white beaded earrings. My goal in putting this outfit together was to pick up on the colours in the dress. The clutch picks up on the yellow and the earrings and shoes accent the white in the gingham print.

This is probably one of my favourite outfits for Summer as I’m a huge fan of bright colours and sunshine 😉 What’s your favourite Summer colour? Mellow yellow perhaps?

Multi-colour Striped Maxi

striped maxi

It’s official – it’s time to stripe up your life! Multi-colour stripes are the hottest trend for Spring and Summer right now. Stripes are everywhere and as we transition in to Summer bright colours are making an appearance too.

I found this cute multi-colour striped maxi at Forever 21 and it makes me so happy! I love the bright, bold colours on this dress. The wrap style of this maxi allows to you adjust it to fit perfectly. The straps are also adjustable and can be loosened or tightened as desired. The dress drapes well and is fitted at the top with a bit of flare a the bottom. It literally flows with you when you walk and it’s so much fun to wear. You’d definitely be tempted to twirl in this dress, I sure was 😉 For some reason multi-colour or rainbow stripes make me think of the circus, perhaps the bright colours you’d see on the big top?

I was equally thrilled to find a pair of earrings that matched the colours in the dress perfectly! My beaded duster earrings (also from Forever 21) cost under $10 and add to this fun and colourful Summer look. To finish off this look I added a pair of majenta block heel sandals.

I think this look would be perfect for dinner alfresco at a bistro or for a fun summer event or concert. To convert this outfit to a festival look you can dress it down by opting for flats instead of heels or even a slip on sandal.

What do you think of bright colours and bold stripes for Summer? Is it a hit or a miss?

Gingham Two Piece Set

Two trends I’ve been seeing this Spring are gingham and two piece sets. I find gingham is a print that is evergreen. It never seems to go out of style, granted it has its seasons of appeal. Every Spring and Summer however gingham is back in style. I’m also seeing a lot of two piece sets in stores, that’s why I was thrilled to find this outfit from Simons that combines both of these trends.

I love the blue gingham print in both the top and the shorts, it adds a softer look to the print overall. These items are part of Simon’s ICONE brand and are sold separately. The shorts also come in the classic black and white patterned print. As the items are sold individually there are many different styles of tops to choose from and you can mix and match. I liked the ruffle detailing in this top 🙂

When worn together the shorts and top give the illusion of a one-piece or romper which is one of the things I like about this outfit. However you could wear these items separately as well and pair the top with some white jeans or the shorts with a white shirt.

To accessorize I added some white fan earrings and my Shiraleah straw clutch. For a casual day time look I wore a pair of white wedges but you can dress this outfit up by adding some strappy sandals for a more formal look.

What do you think of the gingham trend this Spring?

If you’ve been following my blog or you’ve read my bio you’d know why my blog is called The Weekend Fashionista 🙂 Weekends are when I get to experiment with fashion and try out new looks.

I think I’ve found a favourite weekend outfit!  How cute is this striped off the shoulder top . Stripes are definitely in for Spring and Summer and this top is on trend!

I like the menswear and work wear inspired look of this top. It almost looks like a work blouse with the pinstripe pattern and pronounced cuffs. The pearl buttons give the top a feminine flair. This top is cotton so it’s very comfortable and easy to wear. It sits loosely on the body for a relaxed fit.

For a relaxed weekend look I paired this blouse with some white jean capris, a pair of kitten heel sling backs and a bamboo bag. If you loved the Ark bag from Cult Gaia you’ll love this box bag from Malibu Skye.

I think this outfit is great for running errands, grabbing a coffee with friends, going out to brunch or just people watching and enjoying the warmer weather. Most people like to dress down on the weekend but dressed down doesn’t mean badly dressed right? I’m particularly fond of this outfit as it’s the perfect mix of casual and chic. What do you think?

If you feel like you’re suddenly on vacation in the tropics you may not be the only one 😉 It seems like tropical prints are everywhere this Spring! As an island girl (yes Sri Lanka is an island) I’m totally loving the tropical trend this year.

I like that tropical prints such as palm prints, fruity prints and tropical florals are all the rage this Spring. It’s a nice break from the conventional pastels. I’m really noticing some bright colours as well with reds, oranges and mustard yellows making an appearance for Spring 2018. Of course my all time favorite tropical print is … you guessed it palm print. If I could build an entire palm print room I totally would!

I’ve shared some of my favourite tropical pieces in this post.

Look #1 is a super cute banana print wrap dress from Forever 21. This dress is under $25! I love the bright colours and the banana print makes this dress so much fun to wear 🙂 I paired it with some bright yellow sequin earrings and a Street Level rattan circle bag.

Look #2 gives the illusion of a romper but it’s really 2 mix and match pieces. I found this super cute tropical floral off the shoulder top at Ardene. You can wear this top with a pair of jean shorts or a khaki green skirt but I decided to pair it with the matching shorts. Keeping with the tropical trend I found the perfect pair of palm tree earrings at Forever 21. To finish off this look I added a rattan circle bag and the cutest pair of palm tree sandals. I am so obsessed with these sandals, they just scream vacation and they’re under $20!

Look #3 is another Forever 21 outfit. I found this palm tree tie crop top online. I was also thrilled to find the matching shorts. This is another mix and match set where the top and bottom were sold separately. To accessorize I added my palm tree sandals and earrings (no surprise there right?).

What do you think of the tropical prints that are in for Spring? I find they make me think of a vacation and with the weather warming up it’ll almost feel like you’re on an island in the sun right? 😉

Polka Dots for Spring

Yay it’s finally feeling like Spring in Ottawa this weekend! I don’t know about you but I’ve been noticing polka dots on just about everything in stores right now. I think I found the perfect polka dot dress for Spring this year. How adorable is this sage polka dot dress from Suzy Shier.

This dress is under $50 and has a V neckline and a tie around the waist for a classic silhouette. I find the dress almost has a retro feel to it.  The sleeveless design makes it perfect to pair with a light cardigan for a cooler Spring day. For this look I paired the dress with some white wedge heels with a bow detail at the front, white beaded earrings and my Cult Gaia Ark bag.

Does this dress by any chance remind you of another famous polka dot dress? I couldn’t help but think of Julia Roberts’ polo dress from Pretty Woman when I saw this dress in store.  Of course hers was brown and this is sage 😉 Speaking of polo I’m considering attending an event taking place in Ottawa this Summer called Polo In The Park. This event takes place on July 7, 2018 and tickets are currently on sale! Check out their website (linked in this post) for details. The event is held in support of two charities, Wounded Warriors Canada and the Rotary Club of Ottawa South. Have you attended Polo In The Park before? If so how was your experience? Let me know in the comments below.

Marquee Noir Collaboration

You’ve probably noticed a few posts on my Instagram and Facebook accounts where I mention Marquee Noir. I’m really excited to share my collaboration with Marquee Noir with everyone! You’re probably wondering just what Marquee Noir is right?

Marquee Noir is a Canadian clothing company based in the GTA. They make sweatshirts, t-shirts and caps all bearing the names of Canadian cities or slogans. What’s really interesting about their merchandise is that they often have the airport code of Canadian cities along with the coordinates for each city printed on them. What a neat idea! I thought it was novel which is why I purchased the YOW sweatshirt. Their apparel is great for showing your Canadian pride or just looking chic at an airport or in the air 😉

The best part about this company is that they plant a tree for every order they receive. I love the fact that their fashions have a purpose. Shipping is quite fast too especially within Canada and you can track the progress of your order. Their customer service team is always ready to answer questions and address concerns.

I’m super excited to team up with this Canadian company and offer all my friends and followers a 15% discount on their Marquee Noir orders.

Printed Bell Sleeve Top

I don’t know about you but I’m loving all the new Spring florals and pastels that are out in stores right now (even though I can’t wear them yet). If you follow my blog you probably noticed that I shop at Suzy Shier – a lot! I’m thrilled to share another fab Suzy find. I found the cutest printed bell sleeve top in Suzy Shier’s Eastern Airs collection.

This top comes in pastel green, a classic Spring colour with splashes of pink and creme in the print. The design on this top is reminiscent of the Chinoiserie chic trend that was all the rage last year. I love the feminine print of cranes and flowers on this top. The double bell sleeves are a fun frilly accent and give the top a light and airy feel. Goes perfectly with the crane print don’t you think? This top also has a tie in the back to keep it in place. You can adjust the back tie to your linking for a loose or tighter fit.

For a fun frilly Spring look I paired this top with a pair of white jeans (a Spring must-have) and some taupe ankle boots. I also found the perfect earrings for this top at Suzy Shier. If you haven’t checked out their accessories yet you’re missing out! They have many adorable styles to choose from at very reasonable prices!

I wore this Spring outfit to the pop-up flower market at the Rideau Centre. I thought it matched the the setting perfectly 🙂
