Front Twist Top

Feeling knotty? Pardon the pun, I just couldn’t resist! If you’ve been following me on instagram you’d know that I’ve recently started introducing puns in to my captions. It keeps me on my toes having to come up with something witty and I enjoy it as well ๐Ÿ™‚ Speaking of puns . . . let’s twist again with this cute and comfy front twist top from Suzy Shier. Knotted or front twist tops have been a major trend this Spring and Summer so I was thrilled to find this top in store.

I like the casual look and feel of this top. It’s made from a rayon blend fabric and super comfortable to wear. I wore it out this past Saturday as I thought it was perfect for a relaxed weekend look. I paired the top with some cropped white jeans that I had picked up last year and some mules that I saw in store at Suzy Shier. The mules give this outfit a bit of an edgy look and these shoes just happen to be a great dupe of some Steve Madden flats, for a fraction of the price ofcourse ๐Ÿ˜‰ To accessorize I added my go to Michael Kors cross body, perfect for running errands on the weekends ๐Ÿ™‚

What do you think of the knotted t-shirt trend this Summer – are you ready to do the twist?

Floral Print Maxi

Summer is finally here and it’s going to stay a while. We’ve had some really warm weather in Ottawa this week with temperatures remaining steady in the mid thirties, but trust me I’m not complaining :)With so much heat and humidity this Summer it’s a challenge to stay cool and stylish at the same time. I found this chic and comfy floral print maxi at Forever 21 when I was shopping for my trip to Sri Lanka last month. I’ve been gravitating towards maxi dresses a lot this Summer. I find they have an element of formality with the added length and they’re comfortable to wear.

I like the contrast of the tropical floral pattern against the dark background of this particular dress. The weather in Colombo is a bit cooler than what we experienced last week but the humidity is about the same and this dress held up well. The bright colours in the dress make it a great choice for a day or evening outfit. I’ve worn it out to lunch during the day and to a show in the evening.

This maxi is so comfortable and sits well on the body when worn. I was a bit apprehensive in picking it up when I saw it on the rack but I’m glad I did. If you’ve ever owned a piece that looks better on you than it does on the hanger, well this dress is one of those pieces. It has a zip that fastens on the side and adjustable straps so you can have the neckline to your liking.

I paired the dress with some bright coloured tassel earrings from Forever 21. I also found another pair of bauble drop earrings that would go well with the dress. The dress does run a little longer than other maxis I’ve tried on so I opted for a pair of block heel sandals.

What do you think about maxi dresses for Summer – hot or not?

It’s finally feeling like Summer in Ottawa! Yellow is a colourย  I always associate with Summer. I’m not sure if it’s because there’s lots of sun in the Summer (fingers crossed) or because it’s such a happy time of year. Either way it’s virtually impossible to be sad when you’re wearing yellow right?

I was thrilled to find this cute and comfy off the shoulder yellow gingham print dress at Old Navy. This dress has a fun and feminine feel to it with the off the shoulder ruffled top and the lace detailing at the bottom. I love the yellow gingham print, it’s just perfect for a Summer weekend or BBQ. The dress is made out of a linen and rayon blend fabric so it’s light and fits loosely on the body.

I chose to style this dress as part of a casual outfit and I was so pleased to find this adorable pineapple straw clutch at Old Navy as well. Straw bags, pom poms and tropical accents are trending this Summer and this bag combines them all!ย  To complete this outfit I added a pair of white wedges and some white beaded earrings. My goal in putting this outfit together was to pick up on the colours in the dress. The clutch picks up on the yellow and the earrings and shoes accent the white in the gingham print.

This is probably one of my favourite outfits for Summer as I’m a huge fan of bright colours and sunshine ๐Ÿ˜‰ What’s your favourite Summer colour? Mellow yellow perhaps?

weekend outfit

If you’ve been following my blog or you’ve read my bio you’d know why my blog is called The Weekend Fashionista ๐Ÿ™‚ Weekends are when I get to experiment with fashion and try out new looks.

I think I’ve found a favourite weekend outfit!ย  How cute is this striped off the shoulder top . Stripes are definitely in for Spring and Summer and this top is on trend!

I like the menswear and work wear inspired look of this top. It almost looks like a work blouse with the pinstripe pattern and pronounced cuffs. The pearl buttons give the top a feminine flair. This top is cotton so it’s very comfortable and easy to wear. It sits loosely on the body for a relaxed fit.

For a relaxed weekend look I paired this blouse with some white jean capris, a pair of kitten heel sling backs and a bamboo bag. If you loved the Ark bag from Cult Gaia you’ll love this box bag from Malibu Skye.

I think this outfit is great for running errands, grabbing a coffee with friends, going out to brunch or just people watching and enjoying the warmer weather. Most people like to dress down on the weekend but dressed down doesn’t mean badly dressed right? I’m particularly fond of this outfit as it’s the perfect mix of casual and chic. What do you think?

Beaded Boho Bag

Is it Spring yet? It certainly doesn’t seem that way but I’ve been shopping with warmer weather in mind and just had to share one of my fave pieces for Spring 2018! I picked up this bright and colourful beaded boho bag at a market in Dubai and I think it’s just perfect for Spring and Summer. If you’re new to my blog you can read all about my Dubai adventures in my Dubai Diairies series.

I’ve noticed that the boho chic trend is totally in this Spring and this bag fits the bill perfectly. I love how the bright beading adds a pop of colour to my outfit. The bag comes with a removable strap which allows for it to be worn as a shoulder bag, a cross body or a clutch. I opted for a more casual weekend look and paired the bag with white jeans and a soft sage coloured t-shirt. I liked the bold colours int he bag and I wanted to reflect that in my jewelry so I added a pair of purple beaded earrings which I picked up at H&M. Not only are these earring so in right now but the beading in the earrings goes perfectly with the beading on the bag.

As I mentioned earlier I picked up this bag at the Old Souk in Dubai. I had to negotiate the price a bit but it cost be around $30 CAD which I thought was a steal! If you’re a fan of beaded bags too I’ve added links to some similar pieces below ๐Ÿ™‚

Burberry Inspired Duster

It’s Fall and with the strange weather we’ve been having here in Ottawa it’s been hard to keep up with what to wear every day. I came across this Burberry inspired duster from Suzy Shier that is just perfect for Fall weekends. I recently wore it on a trip to Gatineau Park to see the beautiful autumn leaves as they change colour. It was about 15 degrees that day and this piece was just right for the weather.

I love the camel colour of the exterior and the Burberry inspired print on the interior. There’s also a hood at the back if you’re feeling extra chilly. You can choose to dress this sweater down by pairing it with jeans and a tank top like I did or opt for a more formal look and pair it with coated jeggings or black pants. The best part is it’s a fraction of the price of an actual Burberry piece. Sometimes it’s nice just to be inspired ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tassel Earrings for a Dramatic Pop of Colour

Don’t you just love weekends? I don’t know about you but I certainly do! I’ve recently started experimenting with my style and like to try out new looks and pieces on the weekends ๐Ÿ™‚ I just love these tassel earrings from H&M. They come in a variety of different colours and add a hint of drama and a pop of colour to any outfit! I’ve got my red ones on to add some colour to this laid back grey and black outfit. The top is from Garage and the soft shorts are from Dynamite.
