What I Wore in California

It’s been a while since I did a fashion post and I’m super excited to share my outfits from our recent trip to California! It was so great to finally get to travel, albeit just across the border to the USA. As Sashien and are both fully vaccinated we were able to fly to the US and back without any difficulty (I’ll pop up an Instagram story for any of your travel related questions).

As with any trip we always like to plan our itinerary beforehand and have everything organized, which means all the flights, activities and restaurant reservations are booked well in advance. This also helps with packing and outfit planning. We had a flight every other day so I needed to be organized and know what I wanted to wear to each outing.

Here’s what I wore in California:

Leopard Print Top & High Waisted Pants

I wore this look to what I thought would be brunch at the London West Hollywood. Instead Sashien had planned a surprise for me and took me to the rooftop at the Peninsula Hotel. This wasn’t my original outfit choice (I had planned to wear a pistachio green slip dress) but Sashien insisted I should dress up a bit more, and boy am I glad I did.

My top is from Shein and I love the print and cut away neckline. This top is so light and airy as well. I paired it with the Heidi wide leg pant from Dynamite. These pants come in many different colours and the high waisted look went well with the top. You can also wear this top with shorts or a skirt. To finish off this look I added a hat that I also picked up from Dynamite, because you just can’t go to Beverly Hills and not wear a hat. If you’re looking for a place where it’s okay to be extra then BH is it! To tone down the look and blend in the colours I wore nude sandals.

Ruffle Detail Halter Dress

This dress was such a great find to wear during a hot summer in California. It’s also from Shein and it’s so comfortable and chic! I love that this is a one-piece outfit. This dress traveled well and needed minimal ironing which was great. I added a pair of snake print Tory Burch flip flops to give some contrast to the dress. For some extra flair I accessorized with some long earrings. This photo was taken at the historic Hotel De Anza in San Jose. We had no idea this hotel had such a rich and storied history when we booked it online but we loved the art deco elements mixed in with modern touches at this hotel.

One Shoulder Ruched Dress

I wanted something a little more fun and out there for dinner in San Jose so I wore this hot pink one shoulder dress. It also traveled so well, I didn’t need to iron it at all! The ruching was really flattering and forgiving ( we had been eating out for the last few days so I was a little worse for ware). I felt like a Barbie doll in this dress and I just love the colour! I went for a more simple look with this and added some sparkle with a gold metallic purse.

We went to dinner at Pedro’s in San Jose as we wanted to try some tex mex food and this restaurant didn’t disappoint. First of all, how gorgeous is the outside! It’s built to resemble a classic Spanish villa and the inside of the restaurant is just as nostalgic. The food was great and we really enjoyed the cocktails too. This restaurant was huge and we felt really safe inside with plenty of social distancing.

Floral Print Cami Dress

Our travels from took us from San Jose to San Francisco, and since we had both been there before we decided to spend a day in Palo Alto. For our day out in Palo Alto I wanted a dress that could go from day to night without being overly dark in colour. This floral print cami dress was an easy choice. It worked perfectly for shopping and walking around during the day and transitioned well for dinner at Nobu Palo Alto in the evening. This dress was also travel friendly although the material was a little bit warmer than some of my other choices. Since the weather in Palo Alto wasn’t overly hot I was comfortable in this dress. I wanted a very easy carefree look so I paired this dress with nude sandals and a straw bag with pompom details.

Embrace Winter with Toboggan Canada

Can you believe we are already two weeks in to 2021! It’s been a while since my last post and this is my first blog post in the New Year! It’s January, and if you live in Ontario that means we are smack dab in the middle of winter!  At the moment we are once again in a lockdown and many indoor businesses such as restaurants, malls and gyms are closed, the only way to stay active is to go outside. I’ve been making it a point to exercise and stay active this Winter and was looking for a warm parka that was also long enough.

I generally wear a lot of skirts and dresses, even in the winter so I needed a jacket that was both functional, warm, long and stylish. I was so thrilled when I came across the Eva B Long II Parka from Toboggan Canada.

Toboggan Canada

Toboggan Canada is a winter apparel brand founded in 1977 by two brothers. The brand focuses on functionality, protection from extreme cold temperatures and style. Toboggan jackets are filled with responsibly sourced down from their exclusive down partner. Their responsible sourcing and proprietary cleaning processes allow them to offer customers comfort and peace of mind in knowing their product is filled with the best insulation on and for the planet.

Eva B Long II Parka

The Eva B Long II Parka is a knee length jacket that comes with a second vest-like enclosure for extra protection from the cold. I especially like the diagonal zipper which gives this piece more style and flare. The faux-fur sweetheart neckline gives the parka that added touch of elegance. Unlike most parkas this jacket is form fitting and includes a belt for a more figure flattering, stylish look. The faux-fur trim is also an excellent barrier against the cold and the wind. Another feature I like about this jacket is the polar fleece lined pockets and magnetic closure on the pockets, no more struggling with buttons or zippers!

Toboggan Canada offers a wide range of stylish and functional jackets to choose from, there’s something for everyone in their collections. I highly recommend checking out this Canadian brand. After all who understands winter better than a fellow Canadian?

Holiday Style with Shein

Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner? It’s been a while since my last blogpost but I’ve been very active on Instagram. Christmas is my favourite time of the year so I’m really excited to share some his and hers holiday style looks from Shein.

Look 1 – Festive Casual

Our first look is a casual yet festive look. I love this plaid print dress. It’s very stretchy so it fits quite snug and is very figure flattering. It also comes in two other colours. This dress is perfect for looking festive without being over the top. I styled it by adding a pair of over the knee boots and tights.

Sashien found a great layering piece in this grey turtleneck. This garment is form fitting, Sash usually wears a M in Shein sizing and this one was very fitted. I would recommend sizing up if you plan on wearing this piece as a stand alone top. For this look he paired it with a double breasted red blazer, pocket square and black coated jeans.

We wanted a really festive feel to this photoshoot so we decided to photograph these looks at Tinseltown Christmas Emporium. It’s a must visit location in Ottawa, especially during the holiday season.

Look 2 – Christmas Glam

This second look is all about glamour and bling. Just because you’re staying in or socially distancing doesn’t mean you can’t dress up right?! I absolutely love this gown with sequin details. The sweetheart neckline is really flattering and the longer train at the back and fitted cut make this dress a real stunner. This is probably one of the most exquisite dresses I own.

We wanted to find a complementary piece for Sashien so we were thrilled to come across this embroidered high neck blazer. The open neckline gives this piece more of an eastern fashion feel to it. The embroidery on it matched well with the design on my dress and really added character to the piece. Sashien paired it with a black turtleneck but you can also wear this blazer with a black or white dress shirt.

Look 3 – Christmas Colours

Our last look is perfect for a Christmas photoshoot! When I saw this red bow detail dress online I knew I had to have it! It also comes in black, navy, and white. Side note I also have it in black! The red is just perfect for the holidays and the bow at the back makes this dress truly unique, it kind of looks like a present 🙂  I love the halter neckline and pencil cut of the dress.

Sashien’s shawl collar blazer is a great contrast with my red dress. We didn’t want to be too festive for this look but the combination worked really well. The blazer has a jacquard design on it which makes it a really interesting piece. Sash paired this with a black turtleneck and coated jeans for a semi-formal look.

This look would be best suited for an in studio shoot, perhaps one with a Christmas backdrop!

My Favourite Neutrals for Fall

It’s Fall y’all! I feel like I haven’t done a fashion or styling post in a while so here it is! Fall is here in full force and I couldn’t be happier to show off my Fall fashion.

This year I’ve noticed a shift away from the usual burgundies, greens and jewel tones we usually see in Fall fashion. An affinity for neutrals has definitely developed. I personally love neutrals as they’re so versatile and can be worn in any season. In this post I’ll be sharing some of my favourite neutral pieces for Fall.

Colour Block Coat

I picked up this colour block coat from Shein and it’s a great addition to my Fall wardrobe. I love the camel, black and white colours in this piece. It’s a great coat to wear with blue or black jeans. To put this neutral look together I paired it with a neutral taupe turtleneck from Dynamite along with some black jeans. To accessorize and elevate my outfit to a more polished look I added a belt from Gucci, some block heels (you can also wear booties with this) and one of my Tory Burch handbags

Camel Sweater with White Jeans

Camel is a colour I’ve recently come to love. I wasn’t a fan of it before but I have converted! I love this oversized camel turtleneck, it’s cozy and chic. I always love wearing white so I paired it with some white jeans. This is one of my favourite neutral looks. It’s dressed down yet classy. In keeping with the camel look I added some matching booties and accessorized with an off-white Tory Burch handbag. The booties and bag really help tie this look together. This is a perfect outfit for running some weekend errands or grabbing a quick coffee with a friend.

Shop The Look:

Faux Leather Crocodile Skirt

Faux leather is back again this Fall and although this may seem more of an edgier trend you can sport it in neutral colours. I found this midi skirt online at Chicwish. I’m not normally a fan of faux leather or crocodile print but I did like the colour and shape of this skirt. The crocodile detailing is subtle and the taupe colour really helps  soften the look of the faux leather. I styled this skirt by pairing it with an off-white turtleneck and some brown pumps. I added an off-white handbag. I wore this look to work as the skirt definitely lends itself to workwear.

Shop The Look:

Dusty Pink Coat

Pink isn’t typically a colour we see in Fall coats but this one sure makes an impression. If you haven’t guessed already, pink IS my favourite colour. I love the gold button details on this coat and the removable faux fur collar. Throwing this on top of any outfit would definitely elevate your look. This would also work as a Spring coat.

Three Ways to Wear Leopard Print this Fall

It’s officially September and I can’t wait to write about the hottest trend for Fall 2020. You guessed it, it’s leopard print. I’ve been totally obsessed with leopard print lately. I never cared much for the print in previous years but this year there’s so many interesting ways to wear it I’m all in on this trend.

Here are some of my favourite ways to wear leopard print this Fall.

Look 1 – Comfy and casual tee

I found this leopard print t-shirt on amazon. It’s one of my favourite Fall pieces as it’s so versatile. Since we still have a few warm days left I paired it with a some jean shorts and my go-to Tory Burch flip flops. I accessorized with a hat for more of a Fall touch. You can also wear this tee with distressed blue jeans or black leggings and even throw a cardigan over it as the weather gets cooler.

Look 2 – Weekend maxi skirt

I came across this skirt while shopping at Suzy Shier. I was a little apprehensive at first but I’m so happy I decided to pick it up. It’s so comfortable and easy to wear for a relaxed weekend look. I have literally worn this outfit for the past two Saturdays. I paired the skirt with a simple white tank top and a jean jacket. To accessorize I added my fave Tory Burch purse and flip flops. You can also dress this skirt up by pairing it with a black long sleeved bodysuit or turtleneck and some booties.

Look 3 – Nighttime Glam

This is definitely my favourite leopard print look! I picked up this skort at Zara, I initially thought it was a skirt but was thrilled to find out it came with shorts 🙂 This is definitely one of the edgiest looks I’ve worn. I paired it with a pleather crop top which I also found at Zara and a blazer with pleather detailing that I had in my closet. This is a great look for a night out. For cooler weather I would pair the skort with some sheer pantyhose and pumps. You can also switch out the crop top for a black bodysuit or turtleneck.

My Favourite Fall Blazer

Can you believe it’s almost September? I’m not thrilled that Summer is coming to an end but I do love Fall fashion. I recently shopped the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and stocked up on some Summer pieces. Living in Canada we unfortunately don’t have access to all the Nordstrom sale items before they sell out but I was able to find some similar pieces from Canadian retailers.Today I’m sharing one of my favourite Fall transition pieces.

I love this checked blazer I picked up at Dynamite. It’s a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. There was a similar blazer that was part of the Nsale as well. I paired the blazer with a white lace trim tank top and high waisted jeans which are also from Dynamite.

You can also pair this blazer with a black tank top, or a white or black mock neck top. For cooler weather I would pair it with a turtleneck. I like that this blazer can be a casual or work wear look depending on how you style it. I was going for more of a casual look.

To accessorize I picked up this triple chain medallion necklace at Dynamite. It’s very similar to the popular Styled Collection medallion necklace but at a lower price point. I picked up these Steve Madden booties at the Nsale and they paired perfectly with the entire outfit. These particular booties run a bit small so I went up a half a size to a 7 in them.

I finished off this outfit with my favourite anniversary sale find which a purse from Tory Burch. You can wear it as a cross body or carry it as a clutch and the colours are just perfect for Fall.

Stay tuned for more of my Fall fashion finds!

Canada Day Outfit Ideas

Canada Day is around the corner and although most of the festivities are cancelled this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t get dressed up and show your Canadian pride. I’ve pulled together four different looks to help you get in the patriotic spirit as you raise a glass to the true north strong and free this July 1st.

Backyard BBQ Chic

I find gingham is a great print for Canada day. For a relaxed casual look I paired a white t-shirt with a cotton gingham print skirt. This look is great for a backyard BBQ or a quiet celebration with family at home. I finished off this casual look with a pair of white mules and accessorized with some red tassel earrings.

Downtown Glam

I came across this adorable one shoulder romper and thought it was perfect for a Canada day look. It’s definitely more of a fun and glamorous look. This is a great option if you’re hoping to check out some patios during the day.  To accessorize I added a straw pompom clutch which I picked up a few Summer’s ago (I’ve linked similar options below the post) and some white bauble earrings.

Picnic in the Park

Another great gingham option is this tie shoulder dress. I love the smocking detail in the top and the flowey skirt. This dress is just perfect for a Canada Day picnic in the park, so I had to accessorize with my picnic basket bag. It’s also a great option on a hot Summer day as the cotton fabric keeps you dry and cool.

Retro Red jumpsuit

When I saw this jumpsuit online it just screamed 80’s to me. I love the rouched waist and one shoulder detail. The padded shoulder and puffed sleeve are such a vibe. If you’re feeling adventurous this Canada Day then this is the outfit for you. Whether you’re having cocktails at home or hitting a patio you’re sure to stand out in this number

Spring Favourites from Shein

It’s been over a month since my last post and of course a lot has transpired during this time. I’ve been a bit hesitant to post about my fashion finds amidst a pandemic hence the lag between posts. However I found that although physical storefronts have suffered significant losses, virtual storefronts and e-commerce have flourished.

I’ve been shopping online since our lockdown started and been able to find some lovely pieces in the process. I thought I’d share some of my Spring style finds from Shein.

1. Mock neck Swiss dot dress

When I came across this dress online I initially thought it would be perfect for Easter or a Spring High Tea. I was able to wear it out to a high tea prior to the lockdown. I chose it for it for the feminine detail of the dots and the ruffle sleeves. This dress is flowly and comfortable but the tie around the waist helps create some shape and definition. I’d love to wear this out again at some point.

2.  Tribal print dress

I love bright and colourful prints. This dress is so much fun! I found it very comfortable and figure flattering. It makes you look dressed up with minimal effort, the fabric makes you feel like you’re wearing a t-shirt. I would definitely wear this dress well in to the Summer.

3. White off the shoulder dress

When I saw this dress online I knew I had to have it. I didn’t have a white formal dress and this one fit the bill. I love the bardot neckline on this dress. The fabric is stretchy which makes it comfortable to wear. The ruching is also very figure flattering. This dress is great for the day or an evening out (or rather in since we are all staying in at the moment).

Feminine Workwear from Femme De Carriere

Finding well made workwear that fits has always been a challenge for me so I was especially thrilled when I came across Femme De Carriere.

If you live in Canada I’m sure you’re familiar with this brand as it’s been around many years, 35 to be exact. I was pleased to find a retailer that offered well-made work clothes that were also feminine. My biggest challenge as a working woman has been finding work clothes that look professional and feminine at the same time.

This Canadian brand was founded in Montreal and still operates as a family business. Today Femme has stores throughout Canada and is well recognized in the world of women’s fashion. What I like most about Femme is that many of their pieces are designed and made in Canada. Their lead designer Sandra Angelozzi is known for feminine designs and structured, tailored pieces that can last the test of time. I have quite a few of her dresses and business suits and I’m very impressed with the workmanship, finish and cut in these garments.

Femme De Carriere prides itself in offering women luxury pieces at affordable prices and I think the brand really lives up to this promise. Who doesn’t feel more confident going in to a business meeting or an interview in a fantastic new business suit or dress?

Here are a few of my favourite pieces.

Cream Business Suit

I love this cream coloured business suit. I have many dark coloured suits so I was looking to add some light and variety to my collection. The blazer and skirt are sold separately so you can mix and match to your liking. I like how well structured the blazer is and the rounded colour gives it more of a feminine and unique look. Both the blazer and the skirt are designed by Sandra Angelozzi and made in Canada. The skirt and blazer also come in a baby blue.

Cream Skirt and Blouse

If blazers aren’t your thing you can also pair this skirt with this sleeves fitted top. I really like the detail down the front of this blouse as it gives it character and structure. This top also comes in baby blue if you’re not a fan of cream.

White Dress with Bow Detail

This is definitely one of my favourite dresses. The moment I saw this dress in the window I knew I had to have it. I tried it on and the rest is history. I love how figure flattering this dress is; it’s truly a well-made garment. The detail on the shoulder just gives it that extra bit of flare and glamour. This dress is another creation by Sandra and is also made in Canada. One thing I really appreciate about the clothes at Femme is the quality as these pieces really do last a long time. I can’t wait to wear this out to an event, business meeting or garden party.

If you appreciate high quality garments that are made and designed in Canada then you’ll love Femme De Carriere. You can shop their collection in-store at one of their many locations or online.

My Fave Dress Picks for NYE

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and you’re enjoying the holiday season. Can you believe we will be in to a new decade in a few days?! 2020 is around the corner and it’s going to be a great year.

Whether you’re going out or staying in New Year’s Eve is something to celebrate.Have you picked out your dress for New Year’s Eve yet? Here are few of my favourite dresses for NYE.

My first pick is this black mock neck dress from Dynamite Clothing. I love the silver studded detail and the puffed sleeves give it a great finish. I paired this dress with a rhinestone buckle belt and some door knocker earrings. I really wanted to accentuate the silver in this dress. I also like that this dress is velvet, it’s a great fabric for Winter.

My second pick is a little unconventional for NYE but I think the colour and fabric are so classy. This satin one shoulder dress is an elegant choice if you want a break from the sparkle and shine of typical NYE dresses. I love the royal blue colour (the dress also comes in black) and the one shoulder detail of this dress. The draping in the front also make it figure flattering. I accessorized this dress with some embellished tights and rhinestone door knocker earrings.

P.S. I’m currently running a giveaway for a Dynamite Gift Card, details can be found on my instagram page.

If you want to go the more traditional route then this dress is for you. This gold dot printed dress is perfect for NYE! I like this dress because it’s stylish, comfortable and the gold dots look like confetti against the black fabric. This dress also photographs really well and has a sophisticated chic look to it. In this photo I paired it with some black tights and black pumps but you could also pair this dress with gold pumps for a really festive look. I picked this dress up last year at Le Chateau but it’s back again this year and under $100!

Which dress do you think I should choose?
