Holiday Style with Shein

Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner? It’s been a while since my last blogpost but I’ve been very active on Instagram. Christmas is my favourite time of the year so I’m really excited to share some his and hers holiday style looks from Shein.

Look 1 – Festive Casual

Our first look is a casual yet festive look. I love this plaid print dress. It’s very stretchy so it fits quite snug and is very figure flattering. It also comes in two other colours. This dress is perfect for looking festive without being over the top. I styled it by adding a pair of over the knee boots and tights.

Sashien found a great layering piece in this grey turtleneck. This garment is form fitting, Sash usually wears a M in Shein sizing and this one was very fitted. I would recommend sizing up if you plan on wearing this piece as a stand alone top. For this look he paired it with a double breasted red blazer, pocket square and black coated jeans.

We wanted a really festive feel to this photoshoot so we decided to photograph these looks at Tinseltown Christmas Emporium. It’s a must visit location in Ottawa, especially during the holiday season.

Look 2 – Christmas Glam

This second look is all about glamour and bling. Just because you’re staying in or socially distancing doesn’t mean you can’t dress up right?! I absolutely love this gown with sequin details. The sweetheart neckline is really flattering and the longer train at the back and fitted cut make this dress a real stunner. This is probably one of the most exquisite dresses I own.

We wanted to find a complementary piece for Sashien so we were thrilled to come across this embroidered high neck blazer. The open neckline gives this piece more of an eastern fashion feel to it. The embroidery on it matched well with the design on my dress and really added character to the piece. Sashien paired it with a black turtleneck but you can also wear this blazer with a black or white dress shirt.

Look 3 – Christmas Colours

Our last look is perfect for a Christmas photoshoot! When I saw this red bow detail dress online I knew I had to have it! It also comes in black, navy, and white. Side note I also have it in black! The red is just perfect for the holidays and the bow at the back makes this dress truly unique, it kind of looks like a present 🙂  I love the halter neckline and pencil cut of the dress.

Sashien’s shawl collar blazer is a great contrast with my red dress. We didn’t want to be too festive for this look but the combination worked really well. The blazer has a jacquard design on it which makes it a really interesting piece. Sash paired this with a black turtleneck and coated jeans for a semi-formal look.

This look would be best suited for an in studio shoot, perhaps one with a Christmas backdrop!

Christmas in a Cup: Mulled Wine

Hello! I’m back after a long hiatus. This Fall was a particularly tough one for me and my family as I lost both my grandparents within a span of two weeks. But I’m back at it and what better way to get back to blogging that sharing one of my favourite Christmas cocktail recipes.

Mulled wine is a drink that’s synonymous with Christmas. I like to think of it as Christmas in a cup. It’s a great warmer on a cold winter day. The thing I like the most about this drink is the way it makes your house smell when you’re making it. The blend of spices along with the wine gives off the best aroma and makes your home smell inviting and festive 🙂

Here’s my recipe for Christmas in a Cup -Mulled Wine

  1. 1 (750 ml) bottle of dry red wine – I usually use a Cabernet Sauvignon
  2. 1 orange, sliced into rounds.
  3. 1/4 cup brandy – this is optional but it does add a bit more flavour to the drink
  4. 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar – I used brown sugar
  5. 8 whole cloves.
  6. 2 cinnamon sticks.
  7. 2 star anise

To make Mulled Wine combine the wine, orange slices, brandy, sugar and spices in a large sauce pan and simmer on a low heat for at least 15 minutes. Makes sure the heat is set on low as you don’t want the mixture to boil and the alcohol to evaporate. I like to let it simmer for about half an hour but you can allow it to set for up to 3 hours, if you’re that patient.

Once you get the aroma of the wine and the spices use a ladel and strainer to pour the wine in to glasses (you can also use mason jars for a more rustic look) and enjoy with a piece piece of Christmas Cake. I picked up these mini mason jars mugs at the Dollar store but I’ve linked some similar ones below.

Sparkle and Shein this Holiday Season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I simply love Christmas and the holiday season, and what better way to celebrate than adding some Shein to your wardrobe.

I discovered Shein.com about a year ago but I wasn’t aware that they shipped to Canada until recently. I love this online store as they have a huge selection of stylist pieces at affordable prices.

If you know me you know that I love everything that sparkles, so I was thrilled to find these two sparkly holiday skirts on Shein. The first look is a more retro inspired high waited flare skirt. I love the gold flower print on the this skirt. The high waist is also very flattering. I paired it with a black shimmer bodysuit and pumps for a more retro-inspired look.

The second skirt I picked up is this ombre sequin mini that I just adore! This piece is fun, flirty and perfect for a party. It would be a great addition to a new year’s eve outfit (I’ll also be sharing a new year’s eve outfit idea shortly). I opted for a more subdued look and paired the skirt with a black turtleneck and boots.

Have you ever shopped on Shein and if so what has your experience been like?

Mad for Plaid

It’s December, which it’s the Holiday season has officially kicked off! Plaid is definitely as trend I’m loving this holiday season. It’s so chic and festive which definitely helps you get in to the Holiday spirit. Ive put together some of my favourite plaid looks for the holiday season.

Faux Wrap Tartan Skirt

Wanna be tartan something? Well then this skirt is for you. I like the faux wrap style of this skirt and the faux leather detailing at the waist. It really has a Christmas feel to it with the red plaid. I paired this skirt with this adorable sweater from Walmart for a cute and festive Christmas look.

Plaid Bodycon Dress

The moment I saw this plaid dress at Garage I simply had to have it. I love the red and green colours in this dress. As this is a strapless dress and we’re currently in the middle of Winter here in Canada, I paired it with a fitted turtleneck and tall boots. I’m a huge fan of this comfortable yet chic holiday look. This particular piece is part of the Sierra Furtado collection at Garage which includes other cute plaid pieces that are just perfect for the season.

Belted Mini Skirt

Plaid doesn’t have to be reserved for holiday parties, you can easily incorporate it into your weekday look with this belted skirt from Forever 21. The blue and green colours in this skirt make it less “christmassy” and more work appropriate. I styled it by adding a white turtleneck with opaque tights and flats to give it more of a Winter feel.

What do you think about plaid print – festive or faux pas?

Tweed Metallic Skirt

It’s  getting to be that time of year again! Fall is fading and making way for Winter, which means Christmas is around the corner. I find everyone dresses up at this time of year and metallics are all the rage this season. I was thrilled to come across this adorable metallic tweed skirt. I found it at Forever 21 and it was so popular it’s sold out! But… I’ve linked some similar pieces at the end of this post 😉

When I first saw this skirt in store it totally gave me the 90’s vibes. For some reason this skirt reminded me of something Fran Drescher would wear on The Nanny. As 90’s fashion is back in style now I decided to pick it up. I like the gold metallic thread and button details in this skirt which give it a more festive feeling.

I decided to put on a modern spin on this 90’s inspired skirt. I paired it with a classic black turtleneck and over the knee boots. Since the weather has gotten a lot chillier in Canada lately, I added a white wrap coat for some contrast.

I know it’s been a while since my last post so I’m going to make a genuine effort to post more consistently.

I’ll be sharing more of my holiday style finds in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

Lace Pencil Skirt and Crop Top

‘Tis the holiday season and you know what that means – holiday parties! I found this super chic pencil skirt and crop top combo at Dynamite that’s just perfect for all the upcoming holiday events. Although these items are sold separately they make the perfect pair 🙂 The lace pencil skirt fits true to size and has a sheer bottom which is so lovely.  You can pair this skirt with a feminine blouse, body suit or crop top. I chose to pair it with the matching crop top.  I added some accessories from Suzy Shier to complete the look. My shoes are from Steve Madden and they’re super comfortable. This outfit will make you feel flirty and feminine and it’s a great choice for drinks with a girls or a date night.

Sequin Mini Skirt

Nothing says holiday style like a little bling! I found this cute sequin mini skirt at Forever 21 and I’m just thrilled about it! This skirt is perfect for a holiday party, New Year’s Eve perhaps? I like the diamond patterning on the skirt and the frill at the bottom gives it that extra bit of flirtyness and femininity. The rose gold colour of the sequins are a nice balance with the black outline of the diamonds and add a more neutral tone to this flashy number.

I paired this skirt with a body suit that I also picked up at Forever 21. The body suit has just a hint of shimmer when the light hits it and adds to the festive flair of the outfit. I decided to go with black opaque tights to balance out all the bling in this outfit, however you could wear sheer black tights with the skirt as well. This is outfit is perfect if you’re looking to add some sparkle to your holiday wardrobe 🙂

Blue Sparkle Dress

Bring on the bling! As you probably noticed I’ve been featuring some of my holiday party looks in the past couple of weeks. I’ve teamed up with one of my favourite Canadian brands,  Suzy Shier to bring you guys some great holiday party outfit ideas 🙂 Wrapping up my holiday style posts is this beautiful blue sparkle dress.

This dress is form fitting and figure hugging. The draping in the front gives it more of a feminine flair and ofcourse I love the sparkle! Imaging lighting up the dance floor in this dress on new year’s eve?! You’ll certainly be the belle of the ball. The best part about this dress is that it’s just $45 regular price! I can’t imagine a better deal. If you are a prestige card member you can save an additional 10% off this already amazing price.  If you don’t have a prestige card you can get one in-store or online.

I hope you enjoyed my Holiday Style series 🙂 Special thanks to Suzy Shier for letting me play dress up in all these gorgeous outfits!

Black Halter Jumpsuit

How’s your holiday party shopping going? I got another great outfit at Suzy Shier! I found this form fitting black halter jumpsuit that is the ideal mix of sophisticated and chic. The high neck accentuates the shoulders and the sheer detail in the front gives it just a hint of flirtyness. The best part about this jumpsuit is that it’s so comfy! Comfort is hard to come by when it comes to party clothes but this outfit is an exception 😉

To accessorize I chose to add some sparkle! I re-purposed a beaded scarf I picked up at Suzy as a belt to break up the black of the jumpsuit. You can still find the scarf in store!  I also added a sparkly silver clutch to add a bit more glitter and glam. You can also find the purse in-store. I’d say it’s worth the visit 😉

Burgundy Lace Dress

Have you started shopping for your holiday outfits yet? I have! I’ve got a few Christmas parties and business events coming up so I’ve decided to stock up on some party wear. I found this elegant burgundy lace dress at Suzy Shier that is just perfect for a Christmas party.

The lace  detail automatically gives  the dress a touch of elegance and class. The deep burgundy colour is just perfect for the holiday season and adds a festive touch. The black banding around the bottom of the dress gives it just a hint of sheer. This dress is the perfect mix of demure and daring. I paired the dress with opaque black tights and black heels but you could do a bare leg if you’re more daring.

To accessorize I picked up this cute black clutch purse with a pearl clasp. I must say I am loving tthe  accessories at Suzy Shier and their holiday collection. As always Suzy Shier offers great clothes at an even better price. The dress retails for just $55! Suzy has been known to have 40% off sales so keep your eyes open for the next one and you could pick up the dress for even less 😉 Who doesn’t love a great deal!
