Floral Print Maxi

Summer is finally here and it’s going to stay a while. We’ve had some really warm weather in Ottawa this week with temperatures remaining steady in the mid thirties, but trust me I’m not complaining :)With so much heat and humidity this Summer it’s a challenge to stay cool and stylish at the same time. I found this chic and comfy floral print maxi at Forever 21 when I was shopping for my trip to Sri Lanka last month. I’ve been gravitating towards maxi dresses a lot this Summer. I find they have an element of formality with the added length and they’re comfortable to wear.

I like the contrast of the tropical floral pattern against the dark background of this particular dress. The weather in Colombo is a bit cooler than what we experienced last week but the humidity is about the same and this dress held up well. The bright colours in the dress make it a great choice for a day or evening outfit. I’ve worn it out to lunch during the day and to a show in the evening.

This maxi is so comfortable and sits well on the body when worn. I was a bit apprehensive in picking it up when I saw it on the rack but I’m glad I did. If you’ve ever owned a piece that looks better on you than it does on the hanger, well this dress is one of those pieces. It has a zip that fastens on the side and adjustable straps so you can have the neckline to your liking.

I paired the dress with some bright coloured tassel earrings from Forever 21. I also found another pair of bauble drop earrings that would go well with the dress. The dress does run a little longer than other maxis I’ve tried on so I opted for a pair of block heel sandals.

What do you think about maxi dresses for Summer – hot or not?

Multi-colour Striped Maxi

striped maxi

It’s official – it’s time to stripe up your life! Multi-colour stripes are the hottest trend for Spring and Summer right now. Stripes are everywhere and as we transition in to Summer bright colours are making an appearance too.

I found this cute multi-colour striped maxi at Forever 21 and it makes me so happy! I love the bright, bold colours on this dress. The wrap style of this maxi allows to you adjust it to fit perfectly. The straps are also adjustable and can be loosened or tightened as desired. The dress drapes well and is fitted at the top with a bit of flare a the bottom. It literally flows with you when you walk and it’s so much fun to wear. You’d definitely be tempted to twirl in this dress, I sure was ๐Ÿ˜‰ For some reason multi-colour or rainbow stripes make me think of the circus, perhaps the bright colours you’d see on the big top?

I was equally thrilled to find a pair of earrings that matched the colours in the dress perfectly! My beaded duster earrings (also from Forever 21) cost under $10 and add to this fun and colourful Summer look. To finish off this look I added a pair of majenta block heel sandals.

I think this look would be perfect for dinner alfresco at a bistro or for a fun summer event or concert. To convert this outfit to a festival look you can dress it down by opting for flats instead of heels or even a slip on sandal.

What do you think of bright colours and bold stripes for Summer? Is it a hit or a miss?

ย If you feel like you’re suddenly on vacation in the tropics you may not be the only one ๐Ÿ˜‰ It seems like tropical prints are everywhere this Spring! As an island girl (yes Sri Lanka is an island) I’m totally loving the tropical trend this year.

I like that tropical prints such as palm prints, fruity prints and tropical florals are all the rage this Spring. It’s a nice break from the conventional pastels. I’m really noticing some bright colours as well with reds, oranges and mustard yellows making an appearance for Spring 2018. Of course my all time favorite tropical print is … you guessed it palm print. If I could build an entire palm print room I totally would!

I’ve shared some of my favourite tropical pieces in this post.

Look #1 is a super cute banana print wrap dress from Forever 21. This dress is under $25! I love the bright colours and the banana print makes this dress so much fun to wear ๐Ÿ™‚ I paired it with some bright yellow sequin earrings and a Street Level rattan circle bag.

Look #2 gives the illusion of a romper but it’s really 2 mix and match pieces. I found this super cute tropical floral off the shoulder top at Ardene. You can wear this top with a pair of jean shorts or a khaki green skirt but I decided to pair it with the matching shorts. Keeping with the tropical trend I found the perfect pair of palm tree earrings at Forever 21. To finish off this look I added a rattan circle bag and the cutest pair of palm tree sandals. I am so obsessed with these sandals, they just scream vacation and they’re under $20!

Look #3 is another Forever 21 outfit. I found this palm tree tie crop top online. I was also thrilled to find the matching shorts. This is another mix and match set where the top and bottom were sold separately. To accessorize I added my palm tree sandals and earrings (no surprise there right?).

What do you think of the tropical prints that are in for Spring? I find they make me think of a vacation and with the weather warming up it’ll almost feel like you’re on an island in the sun right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

1. Tropical Print Shirt Dress

The first dress I came across was an immediate favourite. This tropical printed shirt dress is perfect for an early Spring getaway or a Summer Saturday. Palm print is one of my all time favourite prints, go figure I’m from an island right?! I love the tropical feel of this dress it’s like an instant vacation and makes me so happy! I paired it with theses bright yellow earrings and a straw bag from Forever 21. This bag is a must have for Spring and Summer. It’s only $25 and can transition from a shoulder bag to a clutch so you get 2 bags in one ๐Ÿ™‚ My dress was also reasonably priced at just $39.

2. Floral Wrap Front Dress

I found a cute and comfy floral wrap front dress that works well for the office and after hours cocktails. I like the muted green and pink pastels in this dress. This dress has a bit of spandex blend in it so it stretches to fit your body but is comfortable enough to wear throughout a workday. I also found a matching necklace and earrings in-store at Suzy Shier. The green and pink jewels on the necklace complement the colours on the dress perfectly, it’s almost like these pieces were made for each other ๐Ÿ™‚ The necklace is $18 and the earrings are just $10! The dress is a steal at $39.

3. Red Floral Wrap Dress

Red is a colour that is totally on trend this Spring and I’m so thrilled to have found this red floral wrap dress. This dress is so feminine and frilly that you’ll love being the lady in red. This is a versatile dress that can be styled as a formal or casual piece. I opted for a casual look and paired it with a straw pom pom clutch. The dress and clutch also went perfectly with my wooden watch from JORD (don’t forget to enter my giveaway ;)). Keeping with the muted nude tones of my accessories I added a pair of wedge heels from Lucky Brand. My dress again cost just $35!
