Christmas Cocktails: Peppermint Chill

One of the things I love most about Christmas are the parties and entertaining. I enjoy hosting friends and family. In the coming days I’ll be sharing a few of my favourite Christmas cocktails.

If you love chocolate, coffee and mint together then Peppermint Chill is the drink for you. It’s very easy to make and a nice treat to indulge in during the holidays ๐Ÿ˜‰

To make the Peppermint Chill you’ll need: Peppermint Mocha Kahlua (it’s a limited edition flavour that’s usually available around Christmas time), Bailey’s, Chocolate Ice Cream, Martini Glasses and Candy Canes.

Prep the glasses:

  1. Place the candy canes in a plastic bag and crush them to form small chunks
  2. Mix equal parts sugar and water in a pan and bring it to a simmer
  3. Dip the rim of the Martini glass in the sugar and water mixture and then in the crushed candy canes. Ideally the candy cane dust should coat the rim of the glass.

Before making the drink take the ice cream of out the freezer and let it sit for 5 mins so it softens.

Mix the drink:

  1. In a shaker place one and a half scoops of ice cream
  2. Add 1 shotย  glass of Kahlua (approx. 1.5oz)
  3. Add 1 shot glass of Bailey’s (approx. 1.5oz)
  4. Shake well for about 2 mins
  5. Pour mixture in the the Martini glasses
  6. Top with whipped cream and cocoa power
  7. ENJOY!

Sequin Mini Skirt

Nothing says holiday style like a little bling! I found this cute sequin mini skirt at Forever 21 and I’m just thrilled about it! This skirt is perfect for a holiday party, New Year’s Eve perhaps? I like the diamond patterning on the skirt and the frill at the bottom gives it that extra bit of flirtyness and femininity. The rose gold colour of the sequins are a nice balance with the black outline of the diamonds and add a more neutral tone to this flashy number.

I paired this skirt with a body suit that I also picked up at Forever 21. The body suit has just a hint of shimmer when the light hits it and adds to the festive flair of the outfit. I decided to go with black opaque tights to balance out all the bling in this outfit, however you could wear sheer black tights with the skirt as well. This is outfit is perfect if you’re looking to add some sparkle to your holiday wardrobe ๐Ÿ™‚

Holiday High Tea at Chateau Laurier

I’ve been a tea drinker ever since I can remember and high tea is something I really enjoy. Attending the Holiday High Tea at the Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa has become somewhat of a tradition for me. Even though I moved to Canada from Sri Lanka when I was just 5 years old, my family doesn’t have a lot of relatives here in Ottawa so we’ve kind of had to make our own Christmas traditions. The Chateau Laurier offers a lot of great dining events around the holiday season including a Christmas dinner in the ballroom. My favourite event however is their Holiday High Tea.

High Tea at the Chateau Laurier is hosted at Zoe’s Lounge. The restaurant recently went through a major renovation and I highly recommend checking out their new look. The tea menus change according to the season and although High Tea is offered throughout the year the Holiday edition is especially popular. You can find their holiday menu here. Typically the menu consists of some savoury sandwiches, scones with Devonshire cream and strawberry jam and some desserts served on a 3 tier platter.

There is usually a wide selection of tea to choose from and a tea sommelier to guide you through the options. I normally choose the traditional English Breakfast tea but this time I decided to change things up and try the Ice Wine flavoured tea – it was a welcome surprise. The ice wine added a fruity flavour to the tea which was quite light. The nice thing about the teas is that you can determine how strong or weak you want the tea to be depending on how long you steep it. The staff at Zoe’s even give you a handy tea timer so you can perfect your tea to your liking.

In addition to the finger food and tea selection Zoe’s also offers some holiday inspired cocktails. I tried the Kir Under The Mistletoe, a Christmas spin on the traditional Kir Royal which just happens to be my favourite cocktail. I loved this cocktail and would recommend it to anyone who likes Champagne or Prosecco. It was a perfect blend of fruity and sweet.

Many people ask me what I wear to High Tea and my honest answer is it depends. In the Summer I usually wear a dress with a matching fascinator. This time however I opted for pants and a top since my reservation was for 4:15 and the sun usually sets around 4:30 in the Winter in Canada. I found this fabulous statement sleeve top at Suzy Shier. This top honestly looks like a haute couture piece with its organza sleeves and medallion embroidered hem across the bottom. I paired the top with these jacquard print pants which I picked up at Le Chateau a few years ago. You can still find them at their outlets ๐Ÿ™‚

If you ever plan on going to High Tea at the Chateau I highly recommend making a reservation in advance as space is limited and it tends to sell out soon. The same goes for their other Christmas dining events. The best way to avoid disappointment is to book early so if you’re in Ottawa and looking for something special to do this holiday season check out the Chateau Laurier and don’t forget to walk around the hotel to take a look at their Trees of Hope display ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve teamed up with one of my favourite Canadian brands,ย  Suzy Shier to bring you guys some great holiday party outfit ideas ๐Ÿ™‚ Wrapping up my holiday style posts is this beautiful blue sparkle dress.

This dress is form fitting and figure hugging. The draping in the front gives it more of a feminine flair and ofcourse I love the sparkle! Imaging lighting up the dance floor in this dress on new year’s eve?! You’ll certainly be the belle of the ball. The best part about this dress is that it’s just $45 regular price! I can’t imagine a better deal. If you are a prestige card member you can save an additional 10% off this already amazing price.ย  If you don’t have a prestige card you can get one in-store or online.

I hope you enjoyed my Holiday Style series ๐Ÿ™‚ Special thanks to Suzy Shier for letting me play dress up in all these gorgeous outfits!

Black Halter Jumpsuit

How’s your holiday party shopping going? I got another great outfit at Suzy Shier! I found this form fitting black halter jumpsuit that is the ideal mix of sophisticated and chic. The high neck accentuates the shoulders and the sheer detail in the front gives it just a hint of flirtyness. The best part about this jumpsuit is that it’s so comfy! Comfort is hard to come by when it comes to party clothes but this outfit is an exception ๐Ÿ˜‰

To accessorize I chose to add some sparkle! I re-purposed a beaded scarf I picked up at Suzy as a belt to break up the black of the jumpsuit. You can still find the scarf in store!ย  I also added a sparkly silver clutch to add a bit more glitter and glam. You can also find the purse in-store. I’d say it’s worth the visit ๐Ÿ˜‰

Burgundy Lace Dress

Have you started shopping for your holiday outfits yet? I have! I’ve got a few Christmas parties and business events coming up so I’ve decided to stock up on some party wear. I found this elegant burgundy lace dress at Suzy Shier that is just perfect for a Christmas party.

The laceย  detail automatically givesย  the dress a touch of elegance and class. The deep burgundy colour is just perfect for the holiday season and adds a festive touch. The black banding around the bottom of the dress gives it just a hint of sheer. This dress is the perfect mix of demure and daring. I paired the dress with opaque black tights and black heels but you could do a bare leg if you’re more daring.

To accessorize I picked up this cute black clutch purse with a pearl clasp. I must say I am loving ttheย  accessories at Suzy Shier and their holiday collection. As always Suzy Shier offers great clothes at an even better price. The dress retails for just $55! Suzy has been known to have 40% off sales so keep your eyes open for the next one and you could pick up the dress for even less ๐Ÿ˜‰ Who doesn’t love a great deal!

Black Velvet Romper

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas truly is my favourite time of year. I love all the family gatherings, the lights, the cooking and of course the holiday fashion! This year I’m noticing the velvet trend with many retailers showcasing it in their holiday collections. Dynamite launched a few of their holiday items a couple of weeks ago and I picked up this cute and comfy black velvet romper.

The velvet adds a touch of elegance and class to go along with the chic deep black colour. The romper is strapless but comes with attachable straps if you need a little more support or just want to change up the the look. I paired it with this off-white long blazer that I got at Dynamite a few years ago, however you can still find a similar white blazer in store. For the legs I decided to go with a patterned tights as it’s getting a bit colder here in Ottawa. If you’re lucky enough to live in a warmer climate you could opt for a bare leg with this piece. Opaque black or coloured tights would also work or you could go for the bare leg illusion and pair it with some flesh coloured tights. The best thing about this romper is that it’s not strictly a seasonal piece, it can be worn year round in lieu of a little black dress perhaps? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Floral Maxi Blazer

I am totally loving the floral trend this fall. I’m a huge girly so I love anything to do with flowers and floral print. How cute is this floral maxi blazer? This is truly a statement piece that will make you stand out in the crowd. The blazer has ties at the waist that allow you to adjust the fit and can be worn as an over piece or a dress. I decided to wear it as an over piece and had the ties at the back. You can also wear it as a wrap dress that ties on the side

I picked up this blazer at Dynamite. It’s available in 2 colours – the burgundy which I’m wearing and a black floral print. The black option is a little different in that it has pockets and a longer collar. Both colours have a ties and slits down the side. Which one would you choose?

Remembrance Day Fascinator

Remembrance Day is coming up this Saturday and I’ve found the perfect fascinator for the occasion. I recently teamed up with Unique Accessories to show off some of their fabulous fall fascinators.

This gorgeous grey and black fascinator with red flowers is so fitting for remembrance day. The grey colour and black netting is reminiscent of trenches and barbed wire and the red pop of colour is symbolic of the blood that was shed during the world wars. The flowers also look a little like poppies, the international symbol for remembrance and veterans.

The hat itself is a one of a kind creation by Lilliput hats. This famous Canadian company is known as the milliner to the stars whose creations have graced the heads of celebrities such as Celin Dion, Whoopi Goldberg and Rachael McAdams to name a few. Lilliput hats was also the hat maker of choice of the late great Gord Downie . The front man for the band The Tragically Hip was known for the ornate hats he donned during concerts. It was such an honour to wear a piece made by such a well respected milliner. Although Lilliput itself is located in Toronto, Ottawans can choose from a wide selection of their products at Unique Accessories which is located in the Carlingwood Shopping Centre.

Pink Wrap Coat

I don’t know if you noticed but I kind of have a thing for pink. As Audrey Hepburn put it “I believe in pink”. I found this adorable blush pink wrap coat that is just right for the colder weather we’re having lately. November is in with a vengeance and with it comes colder, damper weather. This warm and cozy coat from Suzy Shier is perfect for the cold November days ahead.

This coat isย  so soft and comes with an ultra chic satin lining, matching the exterior colour. The belt around the waist allows you to adjust it for size so you can control how loosely or tightly you want the coat to fit. I also love the longer length of the coat as it offers more warmth and protection from the cold November winds we’ve been experiencing. The best part about this coat is that it’s only $59.99! Can you believe it?! I don’t think I could find a better deal anywhere else. If pink is not your colour the coat also comes in black, grey and cream. I paired this coat with my new favourite Burberry scarf and this super cute hat by Lilliput Hats which I found at Unique Accessories.

If you do decide to pick up this coat or any other item at Suzy Shier make sure you sign up for their prestige card which entitles you to 10% off every purchase including sale items. I can honestly say the prestige card is one of the best loyalty programs out there. The card is valid for a year and costs $25, however you definitely make up for this fee and more in the savings you earn throughout the year ๐Ÿ™‚
