Tropical Chic: Our Pre-Wedding Shoot

Hello! I’m back with my first blog post of 2024! A little later in the year than I’d planned but this year has already been so busy for me. The biggest news is that I got married! Sashien and I got married in Sri Lanka in January and then went on an extended honeymoon across three countries.

I’ll share more about the honeymoon destinations, itineraries, travel planning and accommodations in a series of blog posts soon. I’ve been sharing bits and pieces of our honeymoon on my Instagram account so feel free to check out the content there.

Our wedding was on the 18th of January but prior to that we had a pre-shoot included as part of our photography package. Funny story, we didn’t realize this until a few weeks before the wedding. We got to Sri Lanka around January 8th and had our shoot on January 14th. I wanted a tropical theme to the shoot and I really wanted an old colonial building for the setting. I’ve always loved the colonial style architecture in Sri Lanka. We were lucky to be able to secure 55 TG Suites for our shoot location, which is a boutique hotel in Colombo.

Since our shoot was on a Sunday we were also able to do some street shots right in the middle of the city of Colombo’s business and financial district. We had our favourite photographers from Dream Studio who also did our engagement photos.

I’ve linked my outfits or similar items at the end of the post.

I’ll be sharing more of our wedding when we have our official photos but stay tuned for some travel content!

2023 Life Update

Hello! It has been a while since my last post, almost 3 months. I’ve been quite busy with a few things and although I’ve been sharing on a relatively regular basis on Instagram I haven’t written many blog posts this year. Well it’s time for life updates!

We got engaged!

Sashien and I got engaged during our trip to Sri Lanka last year. It was the most exciting thing that happened last year and has kept me quite busy with all things wedding related this year. I am so excited to be a fiancée. Here are some of our engagement photos. A huge thank you to Dream Studio Photography for making our special shoot so memorable.

I’ve also been loving being a bride-to-be and already been to two wedding shows. Wedding planning can be stressful but I’m trying to make it fun at the same time. I’ve also shared a few outfit ideas for the bride-to-be and some of my picks for bridesmaid dresses.

Weekend Fashionista Boutique

On the blogging side I’ve been more picky with the collaborations I’m taking on this year especially since I have so much going on. I have however opened my own online boutique and I’m so excited to share the news. You can shop my branded items here – Boutique

I’ve also got a few exciting collaborations and blog posts coming up this spring and summer so stay tuned!

2022 Refresh!

Happy New Year! Can you believe we are almost a week in to 2022 already? Last year flew by and I’m sure this year will be no different.

2021 was a tough year but a good one as well with many milestones. I won’t go in to all the details in this post but if you follow me on Instagram you’d know that I purchased a home last year and moved in last Summer. I’m still adjusting and moving things around so I haven’t done a house tour yet.

2022 started on a rather negative note for us here in Canada with many restrictions coming in to effect soon after the new year dawned. We are once again in a state of semi-lockdown with indoor dining and gyms being closed; in case you’re wondering we’re also in the height of winter so outdoor dining is rather difficult. However as always it’s all about attitude and approach. The restrictions and prevailing pandemic haven’t altered my plans for 2022 in the least.

In short 2022 is going to be my year of “NO”, I don’t mean that in a negative context. I just mean that I’ll be focusing more on things that bring me joy and fulfillment and saying no to the things that I don’t enjoy. I’ve always been a very motivated and driven person so I tend to overcommit myself as a result. Towards the end of 2021 I was totally stressed out and spread way too thin, so it was time for a change; a refresh!

This year I’ll be focussing less on corporate and professional initiatives and spending more time on my hobbies like blogging, baking and fashion! I’ve got some very exciting things on the horizon and I can’t wait to share them with you. I’ll also be making health and fitness more of a priority, home workouts aren’t really my thing but they will have to suffice for now.

I’ve linked some of the tools and products that have helped me refocus and refresh for 2022.

What are your plans for 2022?

The Year in Review: 2020

Can you believe this year is almost over? And what a year it has been! For me 2020 started off pretty slowly. I was very ill with a bout of food poisoning on January 1st, great way to start a new year right? It was a slow, cold and boring start to the year. I remember feeling de-motivated and like everyone else was going ahead with their plans but me. My mom encouraged me to set some goals and stay motivated.

Personal and Professional Achievements

I decided to set some professional goals for myself to help create some structure. I still decided to enrol in the CITP (Certified International Trade Professional) program at the Forum for International Trade Training. In order to earn this certification I would need to take 6 courses and pass 6 exams, after which I would have to submit my resume along with my experience in international trade.  In January when I signed up for this, it seemed daunting and never ending. I also decided I wanted to complete my PMP – Project Management Professional designation this year.

I finished the first course in my CITP when the pandemic hit. All my classes at Algonquin were to be taught remotely and it took a lot of adjustment to get used to teaching fully on zoom. The pandemic hit us harder than we expected in Canada, and the initial lockdown was both disheartening and depressing. I decided to make the most of this time and complete the rest of the 5 courses. Within the month of April I started and completed 4 courses to finish off my CITP designation. This was exhausting and I frankly don’t recommend trying to do 4 courses which are supposed to be 6 months each within a span of 4 weeks, however I’m glad I did it. I earned my CITP in June and I was really pleased with this achievement. I was also surprised and humbled to be featured by FITT in their CITP spotlight.

I was on the fence about studying for my PMP but decided to take it seriously and started studying in September. If any potential PMP test takers are reading this, yes, I did read the entire PMBOK! I completed a prep course in November and did countless practice exams from mid November to early December. I wrote my exam at home on December 14 through PMI’s online proctoring service PearsonVue and passed it on the first attempt! I was and am so thrilled about this! I had been wanting to take this exam since 2018 and this year I finally did it! P.S. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about the PMP exam, feel free to comment or email me 🙂

Blogging Progress

On the blog front I really focused on growing my following and creating more engaging content. The pandemic prompted me to shift my focus to more local brands in Ottawa. I was happy to collaborate with businesses such as Skuish Cookies, Oh My Honey, The East India Company, MC Laser and Hair and Buyers + Cellars to name a few. I am so pleased with the growth I’ve experienced on my blog and Instagram channels, I was able to reach and surpass my goal of 10K followers this year, which was a milestone for me. Thank you to everyone who supported me in this journey.

I also focused on more hospitality and lifestyle content and was fortunate to collaborate with The Fairmont Chateau Laurier, The Frontenac Club and The Fairmont Chateau Montebello. I was also thrilled to secure more fashion collaborations with international and local clothing brands such as Shein and Chicwish. Sashien and I did some his and hers style collaborations as well.

I didn’t travel as much this year due to the travel restrictions as a result of the pandemic however Sashien and I were able to take a trip to Florida in February prior to the lockdown. We were thankful to have been able to experience a little bit of warm weather before the shutdown.

Overall 2020 was not the write off everyone keeps calling it. Plans may have changed and we all needed to adjust but in the end life is what you make it. I decided to make the most of a rather unfortunate year and I’m even more motivated for 2021!

Looking ahead

I’ve got a lot more goals and plans in place for next year. I’m currently working on a capsule collection with none other than the Capsule Creator herself, Rebecca Rowe. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks! I’ll be posting about this on my Instagram page.

Sashien and I also have something exciting that we’ve been working on and we can’t wait to share it with all of you! I’ll be posting and sharing more about this project soon!
